Generally, as a man, it is far easier to find other men (as opposed to women) that you could potentially be friends with. And, as a man, if you find such a potential friend, it is far easier to befriend another man as opposed to befriending a women.

That is because, generally, as a man, your interests/hobbies/occupation will mostly be populated by other men. And, as a man, it is easier to empathize with another man because, generally, you most likely share experiences and personality traits that you don’t share with women.

So, as a man, if you want a friend, looking for a male friend will be easier and faster and yield better “results”. Trying to befriend women would be inefficient, if you are just looking for a friend to do typical friends-stuff with.

The only reason that men try to befriend women is for a narrow range of purposes that cannot be achieved with a male friend. But we cannot admit that for obvious reasons and therefore are forced to pretend that men and women, despite all their differences, can be just as good friends as men amongst each other.
