I would argue that it is a hormonal imbalance or serious physical ailment which has gone undiagnosed & untreated.

Then again I believe that homosexuality or the "feminzation of men" & "masculinization of women" are hormonan imbalance disorders. It's documented that Lesbian Women suffer more from PCOS than non Lesbian Women as well as I think Feminized homosexual men were exposed too much to estrogen in uterus. Perhaps.

However I do believe that for the large part Asexuality is merely Involuntarily Celibacy in Denial.

A result of Low Testosterone is the absent desire to have sex. Some would consider that asexuality. Likewise a result of Low Estrogen is indicative of the desire to refrain from having sex.
