In UK you don’t have to wear one as a taxi driver or if you have to get in and out the car all the time, for example construction workers picking up MULTIPLE signs on a short road.
there are many laws in britain which are useless and stupid but wearing a seat belt isn’t one of them. not being able to smoke in every pub is a shit one, sweden and australia have it so each individual pub owner gets to choose whether they have a designated smoking area or not. it isn’t really about seat belts it’s just everything else.

I'm not supposed to drive because my license was revoked but i just went to a junk yard cut out a seatbelt part that clicks into the seat and use that so that my car never yells at me for not having a seatbelt and I never wear a seatbelt, hopefully one day i'll fly out my windsheild

I have some seizure condition that required the state to remove my right to drive but I still drive I don't really look at laws as set in stone but more as guidelines that I can bend whenever I see fit, no laws have really ever held me back

automobile safety regulations and laws (including the safety belt laws) were initially lobbied by insurance companies so that they could make more profit, so hardly socialist but I still think its a good law to have, saying otherwise would just be genetic fallacy.

Just because seatbelt laws were implemented for a good reason doesn’t mean seatbelt laws in and of themselves are good, it just meant the motive for implanting them was good
i don't have a strong opinion about it for adults idk but it should be mandatory for children
quite the opposite; I don't think the motive was ideal, safety regulations should have been passed regardless if it affected the pockets of insurance companies, but the consequence of reducing mortality was.
just for clarification I'd rather it be a norm than a law, but so long as it isn't a norm it should remain a law. even as a law I think the consequences should be relatively mild in regards to safety belts.

ive been in 2 car accidents. Neither my fault. Once a seatbelt saved my life, the other it spared me from light injury. But feel free to play the darwin awards game.

I can support safety regulations if the motive is to help corporations because at least then there’s a broad economic argument for it, and one could argue that by not wearing a seatbelt you’re dragging the economy in a very remote way.
The government should not in any way care about “reducing mortality”. Your life should be of neutral value in the eyes of the government. They should do absolutely nothing to keep you alive beyond the bare basics of keeping public order (which prevents someone from physically killing you)
