School is a very hostile, unpleasant experience to any individual who has shortcomings beyond his control, and the spontaneous social hierarchy that materialises as soon as guards/peons look away is completely identical in both environments.

With such dark and intimidating surroundings, focusing on learning becomes difficult. It’s no wonder most kids don’t want to go to school. When you’re treated like a prisoner, it’s easy to feel like one.
When you really think of it, today's schools did not change one iota since Karl The Great invented it. When I was a child and computers but not the internet existed there were already talks about what the schools of the future might look like and that we'd use databases to look up things and I could not even dream up initiatives that exist nowadays like Khan Academy or the publicly available MIT videos etc so why in this day and age do we still send kids to be tortured in the concentration camps that are high schools? It's beyond absurd and totally ridiculous.
So if it was really better for the greater good to no longer have school shootings, maybe work at abolishing the school system and let's organise something else in its place. One can immediately point out why this will never happen: the teacher lobby. The current school system is a terribly inefficient usage or resources. Videotaped classes prove that it is completely redundant for thousands of teachers to repeat the exact same classes year after year. One can easily imagine that the leftist teachers don't want this government subsided industry to disappear to save resources. Meanwhile another jock is making a scrawny little dude getting a toilet swirly and you wonder why he is gonna retaliate as he should if he has a modicum of honour...
