At first glance I thought it was a ring, but it actually looks like the sky has been cut open.

Like the sky is not really the sky, but a prop. Very weird. Very freaky.

“Gly”: As a retired pyrotechnician I can tell you all EXACTLY what this is. This is the after effect of a device called a Dragons Breath Fireball. Basically, it’s 3 - 5 gallons of gasoline mixed with a small amount of diesel fuel and poured into a 8” diameter steel pipe about four feet tall. A pre-made weighted blackpowder charge is then lowered into the fuel so it sits at the bottom of the pipe. The charge is then set off electronically from a safe distance resulting in a Hollywood style fireball and because it was fired from a 8” or larger steel pipe the after effect is often a black smoke ring as you see here. Join the PGI, Pyrotechnics Guild International club and learn how to make them yourself! But please do it safely, fire to your face is unforgiving.
