Tbh as a soldier or even as an officer nobody has a choice, you have a command handed out to you and you have to either follow it or get shot

Tbh you'd not even know that the germans are fighting you unless you're directly infront of a german pincer spearhead or after a month or two when all command is cut off from you and you're captured by germans straggling towards somewhere, every soviet soldier who faced the germans in the early stages of the war was very unlucky tbh

being a soviet soldier sucked in general unless you were fighting the germans in the balkans/germany during the final years of the war, but even then there was a chance you could die

yep the average ww2 vet got treated as a godlike being after the war by the younger generation
However I did read once that disabled vets were literally tortured by nurses after the war, so you better hope that Hans doesnt shoot you in the spine and come out in one piece
