It has been almost 20 years since the last episode of Half Life was released, and ever since then, Valve fanboys have incessantly repeated and convinced themselves of the rumor that a third installment will inevitably happen, which was only recently strongly reinforced by the HL2 cut content leaks by the company itself.
The problem with this assumption is that their version of a follow up simply isn't ideal. In nearly 2 decades, all the devs had done involved fucking around, and delaying the concept further and further and further, until Alyx was released as an appetizer. Simply because Gabe became too money hungry and lazy from his Steam cash cow.
In order for the game to succeed, the content has to astounding. Timeless. On top of its game. Able to hold up for all ages to come. And it is a little hard to achieve this, when the original script was leaked, practically spoiling what it would had been.
Make up your mind about it. Personally, too many chances were forfeited to bring it into reality. Either wait until technology is at a golden age, or forever hold your peace.
