Not really. The more med-looking Syrians I’ve seen are descendants of the Romans who had settled there centuries prior. I’d consider them about genetically identical. They’re certainly not middle eastern by blood, moreso by centuries of ancestors living in that region they’re middle eastern.

The main difference Northern Italians have with Southern Italians genetically is that they have mainly more Nordic ancestors, namely Celts and Germans. Southern Italians are more closely related to Greeks and various Balkan peoples genetically. Greece and the Balkans aren’t very middle eastern countries, are they?
