I played the original Quake around 24 years ago. I was thinking about it the other day and decided to look it up. To my pleasant surprise, remastered versions of Quake 1 and 2 were available on Steam on discount.
Picked up both games without a second thought, so now I have something to do in my free time.
Replaying Quake 1 right now and I'm enjoying every bit of it. I've forgotten most of the game so playing through it feels like a new experience for the most part. IIRC, in the original version you couldn't aim with your mouse and had to press buttons to look up and down. But in the remastered version, it plays like a modern FPS.
The character models and graphics have been slightly enhanced but still have that blocky "lo-fi" look of the original. It doesn't matter to me because the game play is solid.
Quake 2 will be a whole new experience for me as I've never played it before. But based on what I've seen in the trailers and gameplay videos, I know I'll enjoy playing it.
Good times ahead!
