Find all pairs of x and y, such that:

x³ + 9x²y = 10

y³ + xy² = 2.

Posted in the wrong board

1 and 1 would be the easy answer lol

also x = -0.5-0.866i. y = -0.5-0.866i
x = -0.5+0.866i. y = -0.5+0.866i
x = -0.854, y = 1.62
x = 5.85, y = -0.618

brutal linear algebra pill lol

You don't linear algebra to solve it, but how can you solve using it?

I'm impressed this one can even be solved with real numbers, most of the time when people post them here, they can only be solved with imaginary numbers

You calculate first one x"3 + 9 * x"2 * y = 10 right?
First problem ("x is upper number)

Assuming X= 0.5
0.5 "3 = 0.0625
0.5 "2 = 0.25

0.0625 + 9 * 0.25
0.0625 + 2.25
0.0625 + 2.25 * y = 10 /- 0.0625

2.25 * y = 10 - 0.0625 - 9
2.25 * y = 0.9375
0.9375 : 2.25 = y
0.9375 : 2.25 = 4.416666 (infinite 6)

Therefore

X= 0.5
Y= 4.4166 (infinite 6)
0.0625 + 9 * 0.25 * 4.4166 (infinite 6) = 10
0.0625 + 2.25 * 4.4166 (infinite 6) = 10
0.0625 + 9.9375 = 10

Wrong

You need to find pairs that simultaneously satisfy both equations.

Otherwise, there are infinite pairs of x and y, thus the question becomes pointless

Alright, that makes sense. Still fun calculating tho :feelsLSD:
