I do not watch movies and do not listen to radio music because its shallowness angers me. Perpetuating the image of happy couples and how the hero always get the girl is infuriating.

it honestly sucks. i've always hated that. i think its a bigger issue in the music industry rather than the movie industry though. it's easy to stay away from romance movies but hard to find songs that aren't about love or sex
I stopped watching Western movies/shows completely around 2013, and stopped listening to pop music as soon as I gave up gymcelling (was forced to listen to it while at the gym).

don't get me wrong; i totally agree with you. modern music is absolute shit. ESPECIALLY when it comes to lyrics. but Treat You Better is a really bad example. sure, it's about love. but it's about loving someone who is in an abusive relationship and hating that you can't help them and treat them how they deserve to be treated. that's definitely not like the average love song.
