I'm just saying that the Victorian Era, far from being some Golden Age, was showing major signs of societal degeneration and decline (though obviously nowhere near as bad as it is now).
The problem I have with fundamentalists like the Taliban is they're sole focus on obedience, submission, and 'puritanism,' instead of transendence, which should really be the main purpose of any religious doctrine.
