the implementation of self-driving vehicles have been taking a while now,
what you think of the future of self-driving vehicles?

Eventually once the technology is perfected.

Back in 2005 I made a prediction that in 2035 you will be able to buy a new car with full self-driving.

They have now made great progress but they got a lot of work to go.

Maybe in some rich areas, overall society is in decline in general

Eventually incel jobs like truck driving will be taken from incels and bots will mog you. you will be even paying your tax for these bots/software companies so they can get maintained properly and you can get your estrogen laced bugmeal straight from the factory without being contaminated with testosterone traces.

Hopefully if they do they still occasionally run over black people thinking they are part of the road:feelskek:

It will take many decades, but yes, eventually they will become a normal part of society. There are lot of legal, societal, and ethical hurdles to overcome.

to work it would have to be like in the sci-fi movies where every car is self-driving and controlled by the central network

Normal someday probably
but probably not for another 100 to 200 years
I think most people still prefer to drive
self driving cars won't be as big of a change as going from horses and buggies to cars.

considering the performance of modern computers and the huge investment in SD cars, we should have started to see SD cars now, i think semi- autonomous cars are realistic, trucks are a whole other ballgame

Still remember articles in popular mechanics from when I was in grade school. Promising robots and flying cars in the early 2,000's. Don't have those yet.
All the sensors and electronics they cram into vehicles now are a pain in the ass and are the weakest link of the vehicle.
You don't want 80,000lbs of vehicle to have a glitch.
There are driverless trucks running a route right now from Texas, one will fail eventually and that will end that experiment, maybe. Never know after all they do allow recapped tires which are dangerous.
