A Plymouth mother was found not guilty Monday after she shot and killed her daughter and critically injured her son, according to the woman's public defender, Christopher Eddy.

Naomi Bell was found not guilty "by reason of mental disease or defect," Eddy said.

The decision made in New Britain Superior Court comes after Bell pled not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder in January 2021.

Bell's husband had reported to police that she had previously been hospitalized for depression and psychotic episodes and was concerned she hadn't been taking her medication. The father also noted that her mental state had become worse since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the children at home.

Now yes, sure, she did have mental issues.
