LeBron has exceptional passing/playmaking abilities and great court vision, he has decent handles for his size and height as well, he isn't as skilled as most all time great but he has still more skill than the average player. 99% athleticism with little skill would be a Deandre Jordan type player. Kobe is a player who is a mediocre athlete by NBA standards and he has ascended to the highest tier of the game in both skill and acclaim. Many poor athletes have achieved incredible success through skill and hard work. In general, people love and appreciate the hard worker even if life doesn't. Likewise personality, money, status count for much even if it isn't the main focus of women, and even that last point is very arguable.
