Sure, we'd still be incels if smartphones didn't exist, but I think most of us would have better lives. We would be forced out of boredom to go outside, read books and enjoy movies. There would be no Instagram profiles to compare our own lives to, Tinder wouldn't exist, no mindless scrolling on TikTok, frying out brains.

I remember times being better before smartphones, but maybe that's just childhood/teen nostalgia. I don't think it's healthy that we're walking around with a portal in our hands all day.

If smartphones didn't exist the internet would be a much better place, outside of banking a majority of the net would still be outsider spaces where the common normalfag wouldn't dare to go. You are right for the completely wrong reasons, I'd still be using the internet on computer because my computer is what I use for the internet 90% of the time. However in this alternate universe i'd enjoy my time on the Internet alot more then i do now.

Internet by itself isn't bad at all and can easily be a pretty good cope, what's brutal are social networks and the knowledge of how many people have much better lives than you that comes with them, how much richer they are and how easy it is for so many of them to get sex, relationships and friends. I remember some Iraqi guy on r/braincels who was describing how it absolutely blew his mind to know that in the USA there are construction workers who make six figures while his people work like animals for nothing in comparison.

Knowing how easily Chads and Stacies get things that are the"end goals" of your life as a social outcast incel, and how comfortable and easy lives richfags live are mind breaking for an incel.
