I'd say that's a bit of an unfair analysis since it doesn't seem like he similarly filtered out the African top 10%. Especially since if I remember correctly, Subsaharan countries tend to be more unequal on the whole than India, so their incomes should be even more skewed by their elites.

Indians at every income decile are comfortably better off than Ethiopians, so they should similarly be better off than people in other low-income countries, which is a good part of Africa, and are somewhat worse off than Nigerians in the middle deciles, which isn't too shocking as both India and Nigeria are lower-middle-income countries.
