It is like this in New Zealand too. My ex-partner did all sorts of stuff like this many times & got away with it! She accused me of violence towards her, but it was always her that was angry & violent!!! Then when she had me beaten up by two men, the Police & Social Services covered up for her & even helped her take my children away from me. I spent a lot of time & money to get justice, but instead was sabotaged by my lawyers & the Family Court, while my family were too scared to help me!! Scared of whom I might ask!!!
