By a breakdown I don't mean traditional collapse like the Roman Empire with a lot of organized violence but that things will continue to degrade and get more dysfunctional overall and people living in western countries will stop acting surprised by how illiberally, authoritarian and dystopian western countries have become. Most people that still raise concern about how dysfunctional things have gotten will eventually just pay lip service to any idea of pushing back against that or forget the idea that these countries were once freer and less dystopian.
