My uncle (father's brother) was hit by a taxi cab in Manhattan in 1980 as he was coming home from work, rendering him disabled. He later sued and was awarded millions of dollars. He then moved to upstate, NY to retire with his wife and 3 kids.
A few years later, his wife of 10 years divorced him and claimed half his possessions. My uncle took his half and moved to Brooklyn, where he lived alone.
By 1991, he had bought 2 multi-family rental homes in cash and hired an elderly Russian woman to manage them and run his daily affairs. They became very close, and, in short order, she offered to set up my uncle (who was in his mid-50's at that point) with her daughter, who was in her late-30's and lived in Russia. So, he flew out there to meet this woman. Shortly after, he married her and got her a permanent residency in the U.S.
They lived together in Brooklyn for about 8 years. During this time, I heard stories about their frequent arguments that sometimes woke the neighbors up in the middle of the night. One neighbor once told my dad that my uncle literally spent some nights sleeping in his front porch, because his wife locked him out. There were even rumors that she refused to have sex with him and was cheating. I myself often spotted my uncle in the porn section of my local video store. Apparently, the rumors may have had some legitimacy. Everyone in my Italian family knew that the only reason this woman stayed with my uncle was to inherit his assets. Why else would a reasonably attractive woman in her 30's leave her home country to marry a much older, overweight man in America who couldn't walk without crutches?
Anyway, as the years wore on, my uncle's health started deteriorating. During this time, he was frequently in and out of hospitals with one issue or another, and was on several medications. One day, in the early 2000's, after returning from the hospital and taking a newly-prescribed medication, my uncle called my dad. He felt very ill, and told him that he had a sensation of having been 'intoxicated' the moment he ingested the medicine. Long story short, he was admitted to the hospital, and shortly after, went into a coma and died a few days later.
My father later told me that, when he went to the hospital, my uncle's wife was acting crazy and hysterical. But, at one point, she went over to my uncle's lifeless body and said "is he dead"? as if trying to confirm it. This raised my father's suspicion that she may have engaged in foul play. So, he told my grandmother that he suspected she may have poisoned him by putting something in his medicine. But, she harshly reprimanded him for this cynical suggestion. In fact, all my relatives ended up hating my father for making such an outlandish accusation, and actually branded him as the evil one!
My dad even went so far as to directly confront my uncle's wife, demanding that an autopsy be performed, but she adamantly refused. This further intensified our suspicions and anger towards her. This bitch went from being a poor peasant in a remote part of Russia, to inheriting millions of dollars worth of assets from my uncle, just for being married to him for less than a decade. Last I heard, she was whoring around with my dead uncle's money, and was often seen being dropped off at her house in the wee hours of the morning drunk, after a night of partying. It makes me sick to think about it.
How can we find out if my uncle was poisoned and seek justice for him if he was? It's not uncommon for long-dead bodies to be exhumed for forensic analysis when it's discovered that a crime was involved.
Also, if my uncle had in fact been poisoned, would the hospital have discovered this, or is there a possibility that the crime could have slipped by undetected?
Mind you, we are not on speaking terms with any of my father's relatives, including my uncle's kids, so we can't discuss this with any of them.
FYI: My uncle had no kids with his Russian wife.
Thanks
