Everything I put on it burns. Even simple moisturizer. My skin is red and flaky.

I've had a bad time with my skin recently too. Patches of eczema.

When I was a teenager I got it too a bit and then got rid of it by just keeping cleaner. Good moisturisers help like Dove Barrier Repair or Epaderm.

Other than that... hm. Staying hydrated helps and also apparently dry air isn't good for skin.

I suppose in your case it could be something very different like allergies, but those things are just a good start I think :)

In the 2004 study "When Facial Attractiveness is Only Skin Deep," researchers Benedict C. Jones, Anthony C. Little, D. Michael Burt, and David I. Perrett explored how the apparent health of facial skin influences perceptions of attractiveness. While much research has focused on facial shape, this study highlights the significant role that skin condition plays in attractiveness judgments.

Introduction

Physical attractiveness profoundly impacts human social interactions. Extensive research has identified various characteristics that determine attractiveness judgments, with a predominant focus on facial shape. However, the influence of skin condition on attractiveness has been less thoroughly examined. This study aims to address this gap by investigating how the apparent health of facial skin affects perceptions of attractiveness.

Methodology

The researchers conducted two experiments to assess the relationship between skin health and facial attractiveness:

  1. Experiment 1: Participants rated the attractiveness of male faces based on small skin patches extracted from the left and right cheeks of digital face images. These ratings were then compared to assessments of the apparent health of the skin patches.
  2. Experiment 2: Using computer-generated faces, the study examined whether the apparent health of skin influences attractiveness judgments independently of facial shape information.
Findings

The study found a positive correlation between the apparent health of facial skin and attractiveness ratings:

  • Experiment 1: Skin patches that appeared healthier were rated as more attractive.
  • Experiment 2: Even when facial shape was controlled, skin health remained a significant factor in attractiveness judgments.
These results underscore the importance of considering skin condition in studies of facial attractiveness and suggest that traits perceived as healthy enhance attractiveness perceptions.

Implications

The findings have several implications:

  • Evolutionary Perspective: From an evolutionary standpoint, individuals may be attracted to signs of health as indicators of genetic fitness and reproductive success.
  • Social Interactions: Understanding the role of skin health in attractiveness can inform social dynamics, including mate selection and first impressions.
  • Cosmetic Industry: The study highlights the potential impact of skin health on attractiveness, which may influence consumer behavior and the development of skincare products.
Conclusion

The research by Jones et al. (2004) provides valuable insights into the factors influencing facial attractiveness. By demonstrating that the apparent health of facial skin significantly affects attractiveness judgments, the study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the elements that shape human perceptions of beauty.
