I do not know why God chose to reveal his Son and Messiah in two comings ,the first was the suffering servant Messiah ben Josef who died for our sins on the cross. Now coming soon is Messiah ben David who will rule with an iron rod forever. That is the theology I don't have the answer as to why God wanted two comings of Jesus but that is what is going to happen !
Edit : My best guess in Jesus coming 2000 years ago but not making his Kingdom then was to get gentiles grafted into the Abrahamic family ,and once the fullness of the gentiles is reached ,Jesus returns
