Neuralink is just a BCI. While BCIs might be involved with mind uploading, the latter is a long, long ways a way.
At first BCIs are only going to be for people with certain, severe disabilities. Like helping people who are paralyzed do things like use a computer. After that they'll start making BCIs to do things like improve memory, cognitive function, and maybe help you quickly/instantly learn something. I would 100 percent be willing to get one, but I hope it's one of those technologies that quickly gets cheaper, though the "installation" might be an issue when it comes to it being easily affordable for the average joe since it's basically brain surgery, though maybe robotics will be good enough to reliably do surgery by then. A nightmare scenario is they stay expensive, and the upper class gains another advantage over the lower and middle class, widening the gap even further.
I also hope that it gives a bigger boost the lower someone is in terms of cognitive abilities. Like if someone with an IQ of 80 and someone with an IQ of 120 get it, it will bump both of their IQs up to around 150. If it gives everyone an equal bump and it's affordable to the masses, everyone will get one, so it wouldn't be any advantage and I'd end up at the same place in the intellectual hierarchy as I am now, at the bottom. Transhumanism is based as fuck but the whole goal should be to transcend genetic limitations and level the playing field. Sort of like how Stockfish makes me and magnus carlsen equals if we can both use it.
Anyway, neuralink isn't the only BCI being worked on, and there are others besides musk working on them.
But as far as the mind uploading thing goes, ideally I'd rather have FDVR than upload my consciousness into an android body, even if I could have the android body look like a giga-pretty boy. Obviously the latter would still make my life 1,000,000,000,000,000x better than it is now, there's too much I don't like about the world/society/humanity that would persist even in a transhumanist utopia. So I'd rather just stick with FDVR, and live in a virtual world where I'm the only human and the others are just AI, albeit sentient AIs. But best case scenario this shit is like 50 years away.
