Title. Play any of the supposed best games of all time and only a few are actually good. Most are just games millennials played when they were young and hype us as the best games because of nostalgia. Perfect example is Super Mario World. It's inferior to Mario Bros 3 in every single way yet millennials will tell you it's the best game of all time because growing up it's the only Mario game they had.

Final Fantasy 6 is similar. A fairly good game but completely over hyped because it's the first JRPG millennials played so they act like it's the second coming of Christ.

Point is you should never trust the general consensus on old games. It's extremely skewed and if you only play the games they tell you are the best, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Zoomer take tbh.
Most, if not all "old" games are better than modern games in pretty much every aspect.
Gaming companies used to care about the quality of their games instead of trying to cater to DEI Faggots.
Storytelling, gampleay, worldbuilding were all main concerns gaming companies had with their games, and as a result older games are much more fun and enjoyable, not to mention how much freedom you used to have in those games.

Sure, nostalgia plays a big part in the love for older games, but that doesn't change the fact that they were in fact superior.
Also SMW is the most normie pick you could've chosen.

Come back when you play Warcraft 2.

I've never really had a lot of "misses" when it came to old games that are viewed like classics tbqh. Deus Ex deserves all the praise it gets and then some, same with Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Planetscape Torment, Fallout 1, New Vegas, Dragon Quest 5, etc

forgot to mention that I'm a zoomer with no nostalgia tinted glasses for any of these

You hate every single good classic game and only play bing boo wahoo slops. And yet you dare to call me that i have a bad taste LMAO

Maybe my Halo 3 thread is because of this reason.... nostalgia.
When I play halo 3, it´s like I go back in time and am completely disconnected from reality,
time stands still for a moment.

I like plenty of games that aren't from Nintendo. Bomberman, Castlevania, Gradius, any JRPG that involves breeding anime girls, Crash Bandicoot, Dungeon crawlers, shooters. It just so happens that a good percentage of my favorite games happen to be made by Nintendo

Old games are better. I never said they weren't. I didn't proclaim that Mario World was my favorite. I was using it as an example of millennials acting like the games they played growing up are objectively the best. Other games on SNES like Castlevania 4 are much better platformers.

To each their own. Personally I prefer Combat Evolved although I agree 3 has the best multiplayer.

I think it's mainly console gamers who tend to hype up the most mid games.

For some reason millenials seem to overhype a lot of the mediocre modern games like GOW 2018 and Alan Woke 2.
But the ones that like late 90's and early 2000's games usually have good taste, but they overrate some games like Kingdom Hearts

Idk, are the usual Genesis and Snes top lists really overrated?

Well best doesnt equal good. Like arcanum isnt even a good game by modern standards, but guess what - there's no any other game quite like it.

genesis literally has 4 maybe 5 games in total that can be called good, dunno about snes

i'd say 99% of nintendo "best" games are overhyped/overrated because of millenial nostalgia. Bur ESPECIALLY snes/gameboy era shit. Then again most of the games that I care about rpgs, crpgs are overrated too.

i like every Kingdom Hearts game, except how dull the III came out. it was more fanservice Than anything, and a lot more Disney compared to it's predecessors. i Only liked the Ending boss fights. And this scene;

Nah i didint grow up with nintendo games because thats not what we eastern eu niggers do and now in my adult years after i stoped caring about edgy shit i played alot of nintendo franchises because i felt like im missing out, and without nostalgia glasses i can tell you those games are indeed fun and still hold up.

"nostalgia" is used as an excuse, the Ultimate form of gaslight, Rather calling them for what They are.

i find that snes/gameboy/gamecube etc games are just inferior because old+console, have dated mechanics, simplistic plot (if any), retarded MCs, etc. This is true for pc games to an extent of course but compared to console shit pc games are far superior even though have their own shortcomings

I never finished world although its pretty good tbh. What i don't like is how you have to find secrets to complete the game so thats why i never did. Super Mario Bros 3 is superior in every way i agree with you on that.

Here are the games that are generally considered the best on Genesis, are those five games on this list?
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Phantasy Star IV
The Revenge of Shinobi
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Gunstar Heroes
Rocket Knight Adventures
QuackShot
Beyond Oasis
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Streets of Rage 2
Contra: Hard Corps
Earthworm Jim
Comix Zone
Lost Vikings
Vectorman
Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure
X-Men 2: Clone Wars

idk most of them are either "multiplatform" or just not THAT good. I mean Sonic 2, Comix Zone, Shining Force 2, Contra: Hard Corps kind of good.

You think Sonic 2 is better than 3 & Knuckles?

Had that happen with me and splintercell conviction. Turns out conviction was more actiony then I thought it was. Game ruined.

i prefer older games because they’re more gameplay focused instead of having 8 hour cutscenes.

Nintendo games are weird for me, their appeals is to children, millenials and actually they are pretty normie too, normie goyslop
Like @slavcel11 said game like Arcanum had shitty combat even in 00's compared to games like OG fallouts, but had very unique setting, characters etc

For me Nintendo games and their appeal is kinda like...citizen kane or godfather, they are universally labelled as masterpieces by film critics but they are outdated and not to mention that neither have some uniqness and edge. I'm interested in art architecture too and for me most Da Vinci works are bland along with greco roman architecture and to some extent baroque too, it's good but nothing is catching my interest in it unlike Gothic or Art Noueavu.

@starystulejarz

Some old games I definitely have especially good memories of :)

It's mostly the multiplayers I guess. Perfect Dark, GoldenEye, Counter-Strike, Saturn Bomberman, Guardian Heroes, Phantasy Star Online/Universe... but others like Fear 2 I also have nice memories of playing with others.

I guess this theory does have some truth!

We actually played GoldenEye more than PD but the hype for PD was just so huge! Plus I prefer it. And many games we played lots and yet and I'm still not that big on, like Smash Bros.

I agree with you at 100%.

My three favourite games are all old, lol

Phantasy Star Universe, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2.

As for Mario World... huh. I think Mario 3 and World are quite different and are good in different ways.

Yoshi's Island was also very unique and very cute, lol
