I think the problem with the 10 point scale is that people interpret the numbers differently. One person might settle for what they consider 3 while another can't even imagine being with a 5. Which one is true?
I think it’s better to place attractiveness in terms of what generally goes through stranger’s heads when they see you or another person they haven't met before. A better scale should account for how people generally perceive you and if you're rated one of these it should give you a good idea as to how most other people think when seeing you. Below I’ve created a scale to accomplish just that. Where do you believe you lie?
12 – “The perfect face. It is a work of art, a creation of the gods.”
11 – “Holy Shit. They look like a celebrity/model.”
10 – “They look really good, who is this person?”
9 – “They look pretty good. Not bad at all.”
8 – “They look okay; I can see why people would be attracted to them.”
7 – “I don’t see anything particularly wrong but there isn’t anything special either. Plain looking.”
6 – “Not the best looking person. Maybe they’re having a bad hair day?”
5 – “This person needs to get a haircut and clear their acne(or some other inconsistency that can be removed given proper treatment)”
4 – “Maybe if they fixed their (insert facial flaw here) they’d look better.”
3 – “Damn. I wonder what went wrong with this guy’s face. No easily fixable flaw.”
2 – “They look gross! How can nature be so cruel to someone like that?”
1 – “Great God! I can’t stand the sight of this person! They look like a donkey(or rat, ape, etc.)”
0 – “Oh look, a deformed person. I’m not staring, am I?”
