I don't mean to be mister downer, but I will be almost impossible learn a language like Japanese without COMPLETE immersion and reliance. Assuming your native language is English or other similar western language, it will be almost impossible to learn in fluently without living in Japan, which doesn't sound fun.

I'm the kind of person who's media consumption is almost entirely Japanese. There are days (when I don't go to work) where I hear more Japanese spoken then my native English. Even during my weebest stage, I never got farther than about 3k word and could write a paragraph at best.

NGL, I'd love to learn one of the three biblical languages (latin, greek, and hebrew). I would mean alot to my faith. FWIW I think knowing Latin is very cool. You could read original Biblical transcripts and old Church documents. Even Luther's Theses!

Classical Latin is a little different than church latin but it helped me when I visited the Vatican for sure.

I wouldn't be too motivated to learn foreign languages as an anglophone either. I learned English because it's basically a need in 2018, and German because of my family and immigration plans.

Learning a language is too much work and time to be done just for the fun of it IMO.

You got any tips for getting past plateaus? Every time I get to a certain point (about 3-5k words, few sentence writing at max), I give in or give up.
