1) They still can, the research on domestic violence done by women is wildly ignored. We have hundreds of studies showing gender symmetry in perpetration and victimization going back decades into the sixties if not further, and just as long a history of feminists discrediting it or moving the goalposts for why men abusing women is worse. "Well, it might happen, but not as often," then it turns out it certainly happens just as often. "It might happen just as much, but women get hurt much more," then it turns out the rate of injuries is pretty much the same. "OK, men get hurt at the same numbers but women get most of the serious injuries," that is the consensus for a while, and then you get a trickle of studies which challenge it, since women are more likely to kick and use weapons against their partners. "Well, OK, but women are much more likely to fear for their lives!" and that's true, but then some studies are made which dispute even that.

2) Damn, did we actually psy-op some feminist into pulling the lid on the idea of historical patriarchy where women were oh so oppressed? For years, stuff like this was just a talking point for boyos like @GeckoBus, and now we have women confirming that, yes, there was far less "oppression" than feminists claim.
