I wish more stories/games would focus on this more primal fear of something completely mysterious and disturbing. Fatal Frame does it well l imo

I agree. Preferably one in the sort of early internet style. While not entirely being horror, the carnivores series certainly is unnerving since it has the dreadful feel of loneliness and being watched.
