US power metal
More melodic and epic than heavy metal, but not as melodic as euro power metal. March-like.

Euro power metal
Melodic, kind of fast, epic, uplifting, probably my favorite genre of music. Bands often use neoclassical guitar techniques. Often symphonic. Very often fantasy-themed.

Heavier, darker, faster, more aggressive, and more brutal than thrash metal. Vocalists often use growling. Guitarists often use chromatic scales, creating "disturbing" sounding riffs. Fast drumming called blast beats. Gore and horror are the most common themes.
