When observing other sexually dimorphic species, such as the peacock, we attribute the males to being the beautiful ones. We say they are beautiful because they have exaggerated features that only exist for the attraction of the female.

Human females are just as picky of females of other species yet we insist that they are the beautiful race. This is complete horse shit since men are attracted almost all women. There is no one specific thing that prevents a woman from finding a mate, so their looks tend towards an average. Men, on the other hand are sexually chosen based on their physical appearance and to some extent - their personality. From an outside perspective it seems that men are the beautiful ones since they have to put on elaborate shows for the women. Physical size, facial hair, fitness... only the male who has everythign that is perfect gets his pick of the women.

I think the entire issue of women being viewed as the fairer sex comes from society correcting this unnatural balance. Since women are the natural choosers, men end up being the sex who has the most desirable human features. Thing is, intelligence is one of these desirable human features and men grew smart enough to realize that we were getting the shit end of the stick. So men managed to convince women that they were the beautiful ones, which allowed men the opportunity to choose their mate for the first time in history. Now, for some reason, society decided to listen to women again and we are regressing back to the extremely unbalanced state where women alone decide who gets laid. We were truly born at the worst time.
