I complete Sonic 1 almost weekly just to pass the time, and everytime I get to Spring Yard Zone and see the giant COPE sign, I feel like the game is speaking to me on a spiritual level.
Also in Studiopolis Zone Act 1 one of the trains at the bottom of the level also have a sign saying COPE.
