Later, one guard testified: "People were holding [the prisoner] by the hands, and [Blokhin] shot him in the base of the skull... and that was it." Blokhin worked quickly and efficiently, killing an average of one person every three minutes during ten—hour nights - the murders were always committed at night so that the bodies could be disposed of in the dark.
Initially, Blokhin set an ambitious quota of 300 executions per night and developed an effective system in which prisoners were individually led into a small hallway painted red and known as the "Lenin room" for brief and cursory positive identification before handcuffing them and leading them to the execution room.

During the campaign to de-Stalinize Nikita Khrushchev, Blokhin was stripped of all ranks. It is reported that he fell into alcoholism, lost his mind and died on February 3, 1955, with the official cause of death being "suicide".
Vasily Blokhin was buried in 1955 at the Novodevichy Cemetery. In the late 1960s, after the end of the Khrushchev era, his titles and medals were returned to him, and he was rehabilitated by the state. The most prolific executioner in history found a grave to rest in, unlike the ten thousand people he killed.

I would not defend Mao morally but I don't agree on the body count technically ,most of Mao's victims were victims of indifference and policies that killed people and he looked the other. But Mao Zedong ordered not that many murders directly.Stalin and Hitler by far with premeditated killings out did Mao .Also Chengis Khan murdered millions by direct order ,Khan raped so many women actually they 8% of east Asia is is relative of Khan to this day.
