The Haqqanis have had a long relationship with the U.S. government.
Sirajuddin's father, Jalaluddin, was one of the CIA's most favoured warlords during the Soviet-Afghan war, and had a personal friendship with U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson. After allying with the Taliban in the mid-90s, he engaged in a bit of ethnic cleansing. The U.S. Air Force tried bombing the elder Haqqani a few times after 9/11, but missed. He died in 2018 from being an oldfag.
Sirajuddin Haqqani spent most of the last 20 years operating out of Pakistan, helping to oversee a campaign of bombing attacks in Kabul in the years leading up to the U.S. withdrawal. It is rather ironic that he is now in charge of policing the same city he terrorized. Nota[UWSL]bly, he wrote [/UWSL]an op-ed in the New York Times[UWSL] during the U.S.-Taliban negotiations in Doha last year. [/UWSL]
