From what I understand in the US legal system it's recommended by attorneys that you plead not guilty so you have a chance to defend yourself and hope to get a reduced sentence. She probably knows what she did was wrong and that she won't walk free but pleading guilty will usually just result in the judge giving you the max sentence he can and moving on
