I remember many years ago an online friend was certain I had BDD at first because I brought up the surgeries I planned on getting. He was like "you don't need any surgery, im sure" "I'm sure you have BDD, you can't be that bad". Then I sent him my pic for the first time and he said something along the lines of "oh, now I understand, sorry man".

I think that most people with BDD are average looking and hate themselves because they want to be attractive. Average looking people aren't attractive so they are somewhat right to not like their appearance but they aren't right about thinking that they're ugly.
