I found this old song from the 60s and the lyrics are much more realistic than those of contemporary love songs:

I've got the money
If you've got the time

You can have it all baby, yes you can now
If you would be mine
Just give me love
Oh, give me love, love , love
That's all I need
That's all I need
I got a new home

And a brand new car
I can come, baby, yes I can now
Where ever you are
Just give me love
Oh, give me love
That's all I need
That's all I need

So the singer's basically saying that all HE needs is love - and that, in return, she can have all his money.
He has the status symbols (new home, brand new car, money) - she has the love she can give or not give.
Men court, women choose.
It's a great tune but how there is a strange dissonance between the cool music and the, if you think about, sober, message of the lyrics...

lots of hiphop/R&B songs follow the same formula.
