What do I mean by this? Well, think about power. Power will get people to envy but also respect you. That's why masculine strong men are respected so much more than feminine/weak men. No one bothers them.

Social status is another such quality. It shouldn't really be anything, but people will look up to you and admire you if you have good social standing as opposed to being a loner. Think about how no one touches the popular kids in highschool but the "losers" get bullied. It doesn't end at highschool obviously.

Lastly there's looks. I don't even need to go into this-we all know too well how the good looking are treated as if they've done something to deserve adoration.

It could be said that all three of these loosely tie into each other-if you have social status you have power, and if you have looks you can more easily attain higher social standing. The point is that none of these are inherently good qualities such as being kind, loving, caring, hard working, or responsible. They're just neutral, yet society as a whole treats them as if they're virtues.
