Imperialism and the concept of might makes right has been around since antiquity. Do you really believe that the ancient Greeks or Romans were egalitarians who respected the "rights" of neighboring nations? Of course not, they conquered and subjugated their enemies for their own benefit.

In my opinion, it was the Industrial Revolution rather than liberalism itself that drove the 19th century imperialism due to its technological breakthroughs that made the exploration and conquest of the world even more feasible for Europeans, as well as the need for greater resources and markets to which they could export their manufactured goods.

Btw, the guy in the video is retarded if he actually thinks that the main motivation of the Spanish Empire was to spread Catholicism rather than to gain material wealth and prestige.
