I doubt it. That would be a very insecure operation. Most likely he was manipulated without his knowledge. A good puppet is 100% convinced that he's a lone wolf. He probably only realized he wasn't a lone wolf seconds before his brain splattered.

It's very easy for an intelligence agency to find such people. Big tech is owned by the US deep state.

1. AI can filter everyones browsing history to provide good suspects (Google is owned by the deep state).
2. Then anyone in that filtered collection is easily geo-traceable through smartphones.
3. Bingo - a day or two before the Trump rally you geolocated someone who looked up "anarchist websites" and "gun websites" near the rooftop nearest to where there would be a Trump rally. Can raise an alert which goes to a CIA agent.
4. After #3, the suspect can be tracked manually and a plan can be made to make sure he gets his shot (stand down the SS).

They watch his movements. The fact that he viewed certain content on the internet and got geolocated at such a spot means there's a high possibility that he will carry out an assassination attempt. If he doesn't... then they just need to wait for another alert/suspect. Only deliberate incompetence can lead to something like this. Note that Putin, Zelensky, and many other world leaders have countless people trying to assassinate them all the time, and all the attempts are effortlessly thwarted. And the US has a much more powerful spy and SS system then most of the world.
