It is not about acquiring knowledge, you could easily do that on your own. It's about showing off, showing that you are wealthy (and good-looking enough) to participate in the sex party of the genetic elite of men and all women with some money.

An in-field "nepotism" so to speak, this is also a reason for college: Making contacts (for later in life preferential hiring, mutually protecting each others' backs and justifying the existence of the other). It's a game of pretend.
