Because a lot of Protestant sects started imitating Jews and started seeing themselves as the "chosen" of God and the true seed of Abraham so they ended up believing Jesus must have been like them.

Ironically, Jesus chastised Jews for thinking race had anything to do with being chosen by God so those Anglo Protestants are actually heretics of the worst sort but that's the problem with Protestantism. It led to a lot of wannabe Jews, especially in England for some reason.

BTW, the black israelites are an off shoot of Judaized Christians in America. Black culture in America is essentially a bastardized form of white Protestant culture. That's also the fault of the Renaissance, of humanism and the "cult" of the human form. In the middle ages, you weren't allowed to draw Jesus realistically. Icons followed certain rules that kept the depiction vague on purpose, because icons were pointing to a more "abstract" and spiritual understanding of what Christ was as opposed to the humanistic, "earthly" depictions that started to appear after the Renaissance.

There were also rules against depicting the father which makes stuff like the Adam of Michelangelo actually blasphemous. And notice how all the figures in the paintings of Michelangelo are unnaturally muscular, because of the humanistic ideology i was talking about.
