Is there even an art industry to get into at the present? Isn't 99% of "art" now computer graphics for video games and CGI for Hollywood movies and TV?
And why would it matter if you went to school or not? If you have the skill and can show it with a strong and diverse portfolio that should matter more.

Yeah I meant though they're not really drawing jobs are they? I honestly don't know how this works. I see a lot of people still learning to draw nowadays and being very good at it. In the old days there were lots of jobs for drawing in comic books and TV cartoons/animation.
Now I figure it's mostly all CGI work which is not the same. I guess they probably need artists to draw character/scenery concepts they can then build in 3D. But most of the work must be 3D animation nowadays which is not the same skillset I would presume.
2D drawing skills/ the fundamentals of art carry over to 3D Modeling and Animation. It's a hella lot harder to learn how to 3D model if you can't draw in 2D.
