This is more of a problem in the modern era because of feminists raising the ages of consent, spreading birth control, coddling unwed teen moms, etc. This hasn't actually stopped the sex, just redirected it to kids/criminal-minded who ignore the AOC laws.
Girls will always be sexual but a century ago, the 16 year old girl would be more likely the ignore the 16 year old boy (has no prospects, only just began his apprenticeship) and you could openly court her and she would be more interested in you, because you just finished your apprenticeship and are a wealthy journeyman who can pay for her kids.

Even if you were an easily-influenced guy like ASS_F who wants to conform and not be weird, you would be raised in the culture where everyone is doing this, so you wouldn't feel weird about it.
