They have legit studies on corporally punishing children which show that being smacked interferes with a child's development, both psychologically and hormonally (through higher levels of cortisol). Children who get smacked do worse at school because smacking causes a fear response in the brain that makes it harder for them to learn, it causes emotional issues later in life and it stops kids from reaching their full potential development level. Basically, corporal punishment of children is bad for them because they are still developing.
