I first thought about this at the age of 12, when I read E.T.A. Hoffman's book "
Little Zaches called Cinnabar" Her whole plot revolved around the fact that Baby Tsakhes is an ugly child, the son of a poor peasant woman with an ugly face and short stature, but the fairy took pity on him and gave him a gift so that everyone else sees him as handsome.
