Sammy puts it in words that I struggle to, but while at the base level, we may be seeing large advancements in component performance, at the same, sometimes a faster pace technology is becoming ever more bloated with useless gimmicks. Cars really suffer from this.
Back in 2015, I bought my car for 18000 euros and I could buy the "fastest" diesel engine, with some optional extras, and that gave me a surprisingly driver-oriented car that was light. Sure, a diesel hatchback isn't the peak of sportiness, but it isn't bloated with as much useless tech, it has basic safety systems, a well sorted out infotainment system, a manual AC, none of which are intrusive to driving the car. I love that thing.
But now I'm looking to buy a faster car for more efficient coping, and everywhere I look cars are now full of huge infotainment screens, steering wheels with too many buttons, automatic ACs that pretend to be smart, touchscreens that require taking the eyes of the road for adjusting radio volume, drive modes that make no sense in a sub-300hp car, fake engine noises from the speakers, the list goes on so long it's ridiculous, and then they add garbage like lane assist so you don't crash while you're wrestling your car's bloat.
The worst part? You can avoid a lot of that shit if you buy the base model, but if you want the big engine? Tough fucking shit, now you're FORCED to pay for a bunch of dead weight, glorified e-waste you don't fucking want. Yeah, real sporty, car manufacturers
So really, any advancement in technology is immediately eclipsed by the addition of more trash.
