Is Age of Empires 2 campaign worth playing?

I love history and strategy games. How did you find AoE2 campaign? I want to play it mostly for the story and settings. My problem with AoE2 is the ridiculous micromanagement required.

Yeah, all AoE games are based. I only enjoyed them as a kid tho, I probably won’t have any fun playing them now.
