"How did such a powerful country fared so badly?" I'm here to reveal. As a enthusiast of military equipment, you develop pretty good pair of eyes to know what is under the hood of most gears, that is invisible to even "expert" eyes.
Iran likes to give its weaponry fancy names, with observers highly rating them too. I will pop open the hood.
I will post a few examples of embarassing failures. NOTE: While most countries operate old weaponry, they keep them updated with modernized sensors and things that matter.
NOTE2: They do have some weaponry that are decent, such as the Shahid drones. But you can count them with your fingers of amount of decent weapon designs they have.
NOTE3: Truth be told, a side without stealth jets that can conduct SEAD missions, will pretty much be in extreme disadvantage.
NOTE4: I will be posting mostly land and light missile examples, as I am not too familiar with the field of ballistic missiles.
NOTE5: I'm pro-Iran, but their arms industry are not up to the task if they want to counter Israel
AIM-54 missile, which is known for being garbage in US Navy combat record, now got a speed booster that reduces its range

F-5 freedom fighter, the 50s ghetto "cheap fighter" intended for export that kept getting recycled as the "latest modern jet"

BMP series, known for vulnerability, now got a high profile turret that is only bulletproof agianst 5.56 rounds and with NBC (nuclear biological chemical protection) suite removed. Worse, it's got the well armed turret suite with ATGM, 30mm, and MG removed in favor of a 50 cal machine gun.

What if we thrown in a M47 Patton from 1951, slap some kontakt 1 (only protected against cheap ass single charge RPG) on it and throw in a M60 or T-55 turret (not even protected against RPGs)?

Lacking spare parts? Why not mix the Patton tanks (1950s) and T-72 with no particular benefit? Oh and, make it look like an Abrams too (side profile reveals how thin the "armor" is)

Let's chain three ZU-23-2 AA guns together. Imagine the reload speed of THREE of the awkward ZU-23-2.

Let's give the 1960 MIM-23 new paint job, shall we? Semi active radar homing in 2010? Seriously?

This is the most embarassing.
