Not a new case, but it's from 2009 and I just watched a documentary on TV about this guy a few days ago.
So this German guy, 21, who had no friends and no girlfriend, fell in love with some e-thot gamer on a war game forum (not sure which).
She was an English e-thot called Joanna who had a boyfriend (Matthew Pyke)
Heiss begins to stalk Joanna's facebook: On May 3 he wrote: "I love you Jo. I love you more than anything else in my life I really do. You are my first thought when I wake up and my last one when I go to sleep"
After obsessively talking to her on the forum for ages, David decided to one day, uninvited, turn up to Matthew and Joanna's flat in Nottingham. He spent some time with them and returned to Germany, only for him to log onto the forum and see that Matthew (e-thot's bf) had written up "19 Reasons why I hate David Heiss". Some of these reasons included:
“I hate the way you endlessly bug Jo when you see how annoyed she gets with you, but is too polite to say anything. I hate you because you hang around on street corners waiting for Jo to come back from work.
“I hate you for coming back to see Jo for one last time over and over again. I hate you for your inability to let things go. I hate you for your desperation.”
Heiss got pissed, and a few weeks later he decided to drive all the way from Limburg (near Frankfurt) to Nottingham, and in the process has a fairly major car crash on a British motorway, ended up breaking his arm and going to hospital, but after being discharged, goes to see Joanna. She rejects him and he goes home by Eurostar 3 days later.
After being stalked, Joanna brutally bans Heiss from the war game forum.
A month later, Heiss gets a flight to England, got to Joanna's flat again around 12.30am, and slept on the street outside until 7am, which is when Joanna went to work.
He somehow got into their flat, and stabbed Matthew 86 times. Matthew manages to write "DAV" on his mirror in his own blood, attempting to identify his killer. Heiss gets out and goes back to Germany.
Before his arrest he managed to post a message on Joanna's Facebook page. It regarded Matthew's death: "I will pray for you, Jo. You must be suffering unbelievable pains. I'm sorry for having caused so much trouble lately. I hope you won't lose all your hope. We will be there for you."
Eventually he was caught, since he was the only "enemy" Joanna and Matthew seemed to have. Police found the bloodstained clothes under his bed. He was extradited to Germany and given a life sentence.

More background on David Heiss:
- Very early in his childhood, his parents divorced (German father and Bolivian mother)
- Mother went and started a new family and had more children, forgot about Heiss and never really contacted him
- Father also didn't care about him, sent Heiss to live with his grandparents
- Did very well at school academically, however he lacked the finances to be able to go to university, which he really wanted to do. Ended up becoming an office worker.
- Had no relationships, most likely bullied by classmates
- Spent all his free time gaming
- Not a single member of his family came to his trial or contacted him during his time in custody
