Is "incels" a cult? Absurd question on the face of it, isn't it? There's no "movement" involved, though plenty, especially those hostile to incels, appear more than eager to claim otherwise. How should we define a "cult" within this context?

A devout Catholic friend of mine on more than one occasion, when pressed to define the distinction between a cult and an authentic faith, has somewhat flippantly defined the former as any purported religion that exists for the sake of granting the leader access to more sexual partners than the laity. Well, if his definition is an accurate one I think we incels have more than sufficient exculpatory evidence to redeem us from that nasty accusation of having fallen prey to some cult. Our little "movement" has no leader and, if one existed, one can't help but imagine that he would have infinitely less hope than even the least among his miserable flock of outcast goats of securing a single sexual partner, let alone myriad of them. One of the strange things about the concept of a satanic cult is that its devotees are sworn to the service of a being infinitely more damned than they, far more distant from the light of God than they could ever hope to be.

The notion of the incels as a "cult" is absurd, of course. But what person has ever eschewed a fantasy, regardless of how grotesque it may be, if it's comforting enough. People are more than willing to drink liquor, nasty poison that is with a host of deleterious effects upon both body and soul, if it can soothe their nerves for a single moment. People imbibe falsehoods for the exact same reason, don't they? It would be a terrible thing if revolting men acknowledged the fact they are unloved and alone, born that way and condemned to die in the same fashion, purely due to the fickle nature of Fate rather than reasons arising from their own volition. The notion of the Will's magical efficacy, one of the most demonstrably false superstitions that mankind has ever fallen prey to, would be rendered powerless. If the happy and healthy were to acknowledge the legitimacy of the collective incel lament they would, with the very same breath, relinquish the power of human agency. If the abomination has no hope, regardless of his efforts, of becoming beautiful then the ill have no right to expect a cure from their ailments or mortal men resurrection from the grave. The incel is the monster, that bad star and terrible harbinger, that signifies all of Nature's capacity for wanton cruelty. Our truths are not the beginnings of some false religion but the death of every single one of them. As long as we exist, Chaos will reign and there's not a single ritual or prayer, school of therapy or regimen of self-improvement, that can change that. Some things were born in Hell and will burn in its flames until both Paradise and Gehenna are reduced to ash.

So our critics try to find some comfort by assuring themselves we're all mindless sheep who've been infected by a poisonous gospel or led astray by some wicked shepherd, face obscured and name conspicuously inconspicuous, toward our wholesale slaughter. Because if we can be saved they can be saved, if we have cause for hope they do as well.

Sad little fantasy, isn't it? It's just an absurd hope, a desperate attempt to make a broken world whole through sheer force of will. We monsters, we bad stars, will always exist wheeling through the nighttime sky. The Dragon couldn't drag our contorted constellations from the firmament and God has been strangely hesitant to extinguish us.
